Oral health belongs in the whole-health conversation.

Oral longevity is the lens I use to consider the mouth across a lifetime: its health, its function, and its place in collaborative care.

Sleep and breathing

Snoring and habitual mouth breathing are observations to discuss with a clinician. A questionnaire can help organize questions, but it cannot diagnose obstructive sleep apnea. In adults, diagnosis requires an appropriate clinical evaluation and sleep testing.

Oral inflammation

Gum health deserves attention in its own right. Research also examines associations between periodontal disease and systemic conditions. An association does not establish that gum disease caused another condition, or that dental treatment will prevent it.

Structure, function, and repeated patterns

My educational approach considers oral anatomy alongside tongue function, breathing habits, and follow-through. The question is how these observations fit into an individual’s care, and which professionals should contribute to assessment.

For parents

If something about your child’s sleep or breathing concerns you, bring your observations to their pediatrician and dentist. Describe what happens, how often, and what you notice during the day. Adult questionnaires and pathways should not be assumed to apply to children.
